Q: Why did you start Handmade Studio TN?
A: I started Handmade Studio TN because of a desire to create. I needed space for an artistic outlet in my life, so I quit my job and went for it!
Q: Why do you do what you do?
A: We exist to offer thoughtful, timeless handcrafted dinnerware and ceramics, because everyone deserves to have a home and tabletop they absolutely love.
Q: Is there a memory that stands out when you think back on the early days?
A: The early days of Handmade looked a lot like me, alone in my rental house, making pieces that inspired me. A memory that sticks out from that time is the day I moved our big TV out of the middle of our living room to make room for my new kiln… that’s when I realized the pottery had officially taken over the house, and it was time to find a studio.
Q: What moment in your business's history has shaped you the most?
A: I don’t think a single moment has shaped me the most, but rather the combined years of working alongside such an incredible team. I’m just so proud of the way we’ve been able to grow Handmade together, through a tornado, 2020, etc! Handmade is a team effort, and considering how we have adapted and grown gives me hope and encouragement that we can face anything, together.
Q: What are the most challenging and rewarding parts of what you do?
A: One of the most rewarding parts of Handmade is leading our Clay Workshops each month. It’s our chance to open our studio doors and invite guests to come in and experience the joy of creating their own ceramics. I’d say the most challenging thing for me is balancing business, parenting, home, friends, self care, etc.
Q: What would you say to female business owner who are just getting started?
A: I would say that it’s going to feel vulnerable. Get used to being okay with putting yourself out there, whether it is your ideas or your art.
